Education goes a longer way than its simple, conventional definition of learning to read and write. It entails a great deal of competence and stability as long as the impartation and acquisition of knowledge is involved. This feat can be greatly achieved through teaching/learning process. To many, the school is undoubtedly recognized to be the most suitable site for any educational activity, while few would suggest favorable settings as supplements or substitutes for any educational work. It is becoming inherent that whenever the word ‘education’ is mentioned or referred, images of a school or classroom are immediately portrayed in our psyche. It is however erroneous to think that way because these days, education has cut across the four walls of the classroom and even beyond the statutory school building to pass across knowledge through various media like the web, TV, radio, social network and so on.   .

However, from whatever perspective, angle or point of observation this issue might be viewed, it creates a sigh of relief to notice that the ambiguity of this subject can be narrowed down into two main segments; which are formal and informal education.

From a general perspective, any form of education outside a statutory school environment is regarded as a form of informal education. This school of thought is obviously not mistaken but to a certain extent, it is partially incorrect. It may surprise you to know that informal educational process can still occur in a school setting. Unlike formal education, there is no organized way of conveying and acquiring knowledge which is the pivotal roledownload of education in an informal education setting. Knowledge can be acquired and transferred from anyone, at anytime, in anyplace. This could occur between parents and children, neighbors, peer groups, friends or colleagues. Knowledge transferred and obtained through these means is often conventional and multidirectional i.e. one may not be fully conscious of its proceedings. In this regard, enlightenment is gotten mainly from conversations and interaction with people. There is usually no prepared scheme of work or curriculum as it is spontaneous in nature. Based on these afore mentioned features on its modus operandi, any idea can be passed or acquired without any form of obstruction or hindrance. Nevertheless, the teaching/learning process in informal education is not influenced by time and schedule. It can startup at anytime of the day and it is characterized with an unlimited time-frame that cannot elapse not until death except the line of communication and interaction with people is bridged.

Meanwhile, formal education is rightly considered as an organized process of teaching and learning in special settings put up for educational purposes alone e.g. school. In contrast to informal education, the task of inputting knowledge is the sole duty of professionals like teachers, lecturers, seminarians, professors etc. Participants of most formal education settings involve teachers and students/pupils only. Knowledge and ideas to be transmitted by educators and obtained by students are initially predetermined by their respective curriculum or plan. However, formal education on its part is influenced by time schedule. A specific time and duration is put up for teaching/learning activities during the day and a limited session commonly known as term, semester etc. is often scheduled for curricular activities.

ROCK MUSIC

Posted: January 28, 2014 in Articles

Popularly known as Rock n Roll, Rock music has undergone several transformation processes to produce different rock 3forms and styles in music today. However, its existence was largely inspired by some other music genres like blues and country music that had existed earlier on.  It came into existence in the mid 40s and earlier 50s on the American shores.

Rock and Roll music basically involves the use of guitars and drums, often presented by group singers and instrumentalists. Its modus operandi centers mostly on the song itself nevertheless this usual course has become divergent due to complexities experienced from variances in the genre. Formerly based on romantic themes and values, rock music has become greatly affected by social and political ideas. One prominent feature of rock music is that it usually engages live and original performances. By late 60s, rock music experienced a number of transformations which led to the creation of other forms or sub-genre like folk rock, country rock, blues rock and jazz-rock fusion in rock and roll music. The golden age period saw the emergence of various forms of rock music different in style and theme but yet based on the same form or genre of music.

Rock music as it is known today is the precursor of some cultural and social movements experienced in the 60s. Some of these include mods, rockers, hippie, punk, goth, emo etc. Some social vices portrayed in the society were seen to be highly influenced by rock. They are racism, sex and drug abuse.

The most relevant and conspicuous musical instrument of rock and roll is the guitar. The electric guitar is said to be the pioneer musical instrument since its inception. However, with the coming in of modernization, the electric guitar is now being supported with the bass guitar and other musical instruments. This was introduced by Fender in 1951. The keyboard instruments such as the electric piano, organ, and synthesizer; and the drum set were African American innovations that came into rock music from jazz and R&B music.

Instruments that play important roles in certain rock-music genres include the saxophone—prominent in jazz-rock and soul music—and a wide assortment of traditional instruments used in worldbeat music. The microphone also functions as a musical instrument for many rock singers, who rely upon the amplification and various effects (such as echo) obtainable through electronic means.

Rock music also shares more complex technical aspects. Most rock music is based on the same harmonies as Western music, especially the chords known as tonic, subdominant, and dominant. The chord progression (series of chords) known as the 12-bar blues is based on these chords and has figured prominently in certain styles, especially rock and roll, soul music, and southern rock. Other common harmonic devices include the use of a drone, or pedal point (a single pitch sustained through a progression of chords), and the parallel movement of chords, derived from a technique on the electric guitar known as bar-chording. Many elements of African American music have been a continuing source of influence on rock music. These characteristics include riffs (repeated patterns), backbeats (emphasizing the second and fourth beats of each measure; see Musical Rhythm: Pulse and Meter), call-and-response patterns, blue notes (the use of certain bent-sounding pitches, especially those related to the third and fifth degrees of a musical scale), and dense buzzy-sounding timbres, or tone colors.

The musical form of rock music varies. Rock and roll of the late 1950s relied heavily upon 12-bar blues and 32-bar song forms. Some rock bands of the late 1960s experimented with more flexible, open-ended forms, and some rock bands of the 1970s developed suite forms derived from classical music. Another important formal development in rock music has been the so-called concept album, a succession of musical pieces tied together by a loose narrative theme.

attorneyAttorney, barrister and solicitor are common names in the judiciary. Most often than not, these titles are associated with legal practitioners and members of the jury. However, it may be surprising to note that there is no clear distinction between these professionals and the roles they play as the stand to be seemingly the same.

In law, an attorney is a person who is legally authorized by another to be represented in court. In fact, an agent given the authority to bind his/her principal is referred to as attorney. The “power of attorney” is the written instrument used to bestow such authority. The term “Attorney” is frequently applied in the American setting. A lawyer in the United States is often referred to as attorney at law. Here, an attorney is simply a legal practitioner or an officer of the court who is required to adhere to both the constitution of the state and the nation as a whole after taking the binding oath of office. They are charged to function diligently and faithfully to their clients with dexterity and wittiness in every affair of the profession.

Barrister, in a general sense is one who pleads for another in a court of law or other tribunal. In the United Kingdom, professional advocates are called barristers and are permitted to plead or argue cases before the High Court of Justice. Unlike solicitors, a barrister is one, who may conducts litigation only in inferior courts. Lawyers in France are analogous to barristers in England, since they carryout virtually the same duties.

A solicitor, on the other hand, is one who pleads for another in a court of law or other tribunal by conducting Hammerlitigation in superior courts. As lawyers, they give legal advice, prepare legal documents and can create preliminary oeuvre for barristers. In most cases, solicitors with advocacy qualification do not represent clients in court. A chief officer for legal matters in a town, a city or even a country is most times referred to as solicitor.

Now, who then is a lawyer? In a common sense, a lawyer is someone who is qualified to practice the law that is he or she must have passed the preliminary examination in general scholarship, graduated from a school of law and finally passing the mandatory examination in law to become a qualified professional adviser on legal matters and then admitted into the bar to represent clients in court. From this definition and brief explanation, it can be deduced that an attorney, a barrister and a solicitor is as well a layer as long as he or she had undergone the usually process and had met the stipulated criteria to becoming a legal practitioner.

L’utilisation du préservatif

Posted: November 9, 2013 in Articles
